Use Writing & Wanderlust to Connect People and Make Money

There are so many people around the world, in your country, city, apartment building and since I was younger I loved hearing people’s stories. I remember watching cartoons as a kid and all the children on the cartoon would moan and groan when grandpa began telling about how he walked to school 15 miles both ways in the snow. I thought the exact opposite. I’m like, I want to hear this story!

So living overseas and getting to know so many people and even just being an English teacher I got to meet so many people and listen to their stories. How their family came to such and such a country, why they miss the Soviet Union, how they were orphaned at an early age. I could sit and listen to people tell their stories all day. It really helps you to remember that people are the same wherever you go, some hardships and blessings, dreams and fears.

I thought people’s stories need to be told.

The way I conceived this was producing a travel magazine, just for my family and friends. It would be called ‘Souvenirs’ in lieu of getting some t-shirt they were getting to meet someone that they would probably never cross paths with and get to know them.

So you know by now I have many ideas, few executions but I wrote it down like all my ideas and tucked it away for now I guess.

The idea is just that. Maybe you travel, or you are stationary but know your area has its own unique people and stories. Possibly you want to get into travel writing but aren’t interested in the food of a place or the history but the people themselves. I guarantee there are others just as interested as you who will never travel.

So why not go around, ask people to share their story, take a few photos of them, provide them with a bit of money and produce a magazine, blog (or even YT videos) sharing the things they’ve gone through in their life.

This idea doesn’t take much no how, but I can see it going a few different ways depending on your own interest.

Again, there are so many possibilities with this. I’d like to hear in the comments about how you feel this can be adapted to your area or, if you are already doing it, and what success you’ve found or other opportunities you see.
